Tips for Traveling with Little Ones

Tips for Traveling with Little Ones

Traveling with children is no easy feat (doesn't matter if it's by car, plane or train).

Being prepared & knowing what you're getting into is the most important when traveling as a family. Here are some quick tips I've picked up & learned along the way!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Travel Light: You'll be carrying it all. If you don't have something you can always buy it or do laundry there. (Car seats & strollers are free to check with airlines.)

-Bring extra clothes: On airplanes or in the car- accidents, spills, throw up, happen. I had an experience where my child threw up five times while flying & I forgot the extra outfit. It was not a pretty sight. Keep clothes near the top of the carry on bag too for easy access.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Tell kids ahead of time about the trip: Being prepared helps put your children at ease & feel ready for what is happening.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Plan extra time: Keep your schedule loose & leave plenty of room for adjustment. A flexible schedule will create less stress for you & your family. Things will go wrong. Keep it all in perspective & know some of the fun is the adventure.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Snacks Snacks Snacks: You never know when an extra-long delay might happen. Having extra food is essential and help keep everyone happy. We don't like hangry!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Pack new toys/games: I also pack old books & coloring books and then throw them out at the destination. Dollar store items can be wrapped up for kids to unwrap. Inexpensive novelty toys go a long way!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Book a hotel with a kitchenette/pool: It's nice to be able to cook some of your own food (like breakfast). A pool can keep the kids busy for hours.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Traveling with children is overwhelming. Don't be a hero, if you need a break, get out the iPad/device...this is the time. The more you travel the easier it becomes.
